Because Hispanic women still face limited benefits in terms of the wage gap for getting a college education after graduating from high school, just encouraging higher education will not resolve the gender wage gap. Mora and Dávila also find significant differences based on the generation of immigration. Immigrants have influenced today’s culture in America through their practices, art, literature, and more.

Everything from countries of origin, to social class, to where raised, to education, to non-sociological factors like being who you are and liking what you like impacts who we are. As the wage decomposition in this brief demonstrates, the wage gap for Hispanic women is primarily caused by unexplained discrimination, followed by workplace segregation and restricted access to educational opportunities. The disaggregation of the white male premium and Hispanic woman penalty detailed in Figure 7 sheds light on the mechanism through which the wage gap changes with rising education.
